Four people were injured during a large fight at The Retreat at Newark apartment complex.
Four people were injured when a group of men crashed a party at a Newark apartment complex and began fighting with the invited guests.
The incident happened Sunday at The Retreat at Newark, located behind Suburban Plaza, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
Rubin said there was a party happening at an apartment in the 400 block of Hamlet Way, when a group of seven to 14 men entered the party uninvited.
“The group was trying to pick fights with the people at the party,” Rubin said.
A resident of the apartment asked the group to leave, causing a fight to break out. A 20-year-old man, who was an invited guest, was injured.
Later, the group returned and attacked the victim again, knocking him to the ground. He was then assaulted by six or seven people.
Additional fights broke out, and three more people were injured, including several who were struck with a bottle.
Three people were taken to Christiana Hospital by personal vehicle to be treated for cuts. The victims were all college-age, but Rubin did not know if they were University of Delaware students.
The suspect who struck partygoers with a bottle was described as a white man wearing a great sweatshirt. The suspects fled in an SUV and a Chrysler sedan.
